What we've not yet taught her

I friend of mine asked me to write about why young children are more in touch with the 'Great Spirit' than adults...he said:
"Zoe's photos definitely reflect this [to me], and perhaps you could
write about this. Not as Mommy, but as objectively as possible - how God
shines through these divine sparks."

(Author's note:
“We” below refers to society)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Children enter Earth pure and bright
The clearest reflection of the Great Spirit’s light
Approaching the world as we were created to do
A breathless, refreshing experience to view
How is it that such an innocent one
Can so unabashedly seek true fun?
While we who have birthed them, and schooled them and such
We grownups, with that spirit, are rarely in touch
Whether you espouse the First Sin, or some evolutionary span
something perverts the Great Spirit’s plan
rules and restrictions, morés, expectations
we mold them and shape them for certain life stations
Zoë, my offspring, is thriving and growing
Her name, from the Greek, means “life overflowing”
Seeing life through her eyes is a great source of healing
The lessons she teaches me send me reeling
How does she jump into life with both feet?
Exuberance spills over to all she might meet
Some introspection makes the answer quite clear
We’ve not yet taught her how to fear
She runs naked at home; it feels natural and right
Her sturdy body in motion, is perfect, and light
How can she feel so comfy, enjoy without blame?
We’ve not yet taught her to feel shame
Z loves to create, to sing, and to run
To play dress up, drive trucks, and to bask in the sun
She is the animal kingdom; then sells us her toys on credit
We’ve not yet taught her to self-edit
The most honest of language flows from her lips
Even repeating profanity from which our mouths sometimes slips
Her words serve every thought to us, as if on a plate
We’ve not yet taught her to equivocate
She sees clearly the rainbow of hair, skin and eyes
But only like how the grass is green, with blue skis
She naturally absorbs diversity, variety delights her
We’ve not yet taught her to hate the dissimilar
I am grown up, educated and try to do what is “right”
But my spirit is renewed just by watching this sprite
To me, her unfiltered outpouring of love
Most clearly channels the Great Spirit from above
